Feline Friday: Who's spinning basket is it anyway?

Life has been crazy, but cute cat pictures can defy deadlines.

So as any cat owner (or reader of Buzzfeed lists) knows, cats have a way of taking over your space and making it their own.

It became clear in the first few days of Jack's arrival in October, that my spinning basket belonged to him. On one of his first days, he disappeared in my apartment, when I finally found him, he was asleep in my spinning basket.

Circa October 2013 - Jack weighed about 1lb.

Circa October 2013 - Jack weighed about 1lb.

Since then, whenever I left off the makeshift spinning basket cover, he would sneak in and take a nap.

Early December 2013 - Jack weighed in around 2.5 lbs.

As he got older he got more brazen and I thought it was cuter.

Early January 2014 - Growing fast and around 3.5lb.

However, today when I tried to photo of him in the basket for a then and now thing, he was not interested.

Thursday evening - Jack is large an in charge at 9.3lb

So now that he is officially over the fluff I will spin it, and since it is infused with his fur, I will make a blanket for him out of it. However, I think he claimed dibs on in back in October, so it seems only fair since he has waited so long for it.

Feline Friday: Jack, the Frolic Cat

As I mentioned earlier this week, my mom, sister and I went to Knitter's Frolic in Toronto on Saturday.  What I didn't mention is that we left at 6am and were home around 7pm which left my cat in the caring hands of my father.

Over the years, my dad has declared himself pet negative.  He LOVES dogs, and grew up with many of them, but didn't really want one.  Unfortunately for him, the cat he got my mom for her 28th birthday (I think) managed to live nearly 20 years before we had to put her down, which was an act of mercy.  Phoebe was a fighter and a trooper, and in the end we thought putting her down was more humane than letting her yowl her for a three day drive on our move from Houston to Ottawa when I was 14 (sedation wasn't an option because of her heart).

Since Phoebe we have had a few other cats (which I will tell you more about later, because there have been some characters), but they have been all outdoor cats.

When I got Jack, I knew he had to be an indoor cat because I live in a 4th floor apartment. This meant that when we visit my parents he would be allowed in the house, the first cat to be allowed that privilege since Phoebe (although as she got older she preferred to be outside all the time, we were living in Houston and for a cat from Montreal, it was a pretty cush life).

My parents agreed he would be allowed in their house, but my dad made it clear, while he was a cute kitten, he would become a cat and less worthy of affection.

Jack and Jo (my dad), the first weekend they met back in November.

However, Jack has decided that my dad is the best guy in the whole world, and while the we were in Toronto for Frolic, my dad was taking care of Jack and sending me the occasional update by text. Apparently, the do really like each other.

This photo was sent with the caption "Lonely Boy"

This one came with a note about how hard it is to work one handed.

What a little suck up! When I'm working at my computer all Jack wants to do is chew on my fingers or sit on my keyboard.  I guess he just doesn't like me as much as he likes my dad, I think I will survive.

Jack, Jack, the Loom Cat

I love reading blogs, well mostly looking at the pictures, but I love them.  I have many favorites, but one feature I love is the Knitting Pirate's Feline Friday.

She has a pair of cats who are always adorable (if not always a fan of the camera), that she often features on Friday.  In honor of Kipling and Floyd, I offer up some Jack pictures.

____

I don't quite know why, but Jack is obsessed with climbing under my Cricket loom.  He has been doing it since he was a tiny kitten, and today he is still trying to do it although he is 8lbs instead of 1.5lbs.

He doesn't fit as well as he once did, but that won't stop him from trying.
